Terms of use.
Short version: plugview is free, open-source software under the MIT License, provided as is. The long version follows.
EFFECTIVE 1 OCTOBER 2026
The software
The plugview app and command are free and open source, released under the MIT License. You may use, copy, change and share them as that license allows; the license text is the binding agreement for the software. The bundled Geist and Geist Mono fonts are under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
No warranty
As the MIT License says, the software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and noninfringement. In no event shall the authors or copyright holders be liable for any claim, damages or other liability arising from, out of or in connection with the software or its use.
In plain words: plugview is built with care and measured on real hardware, but it may not work with every capture card, console or Mac, and you use it at your own risk.
Using plugview
plugview shows the signal from devices you connect to your own Mac. You are responsible for having the right to view what you capture. plugview does not get around copy protection: content protected with HDCP stays black, as the device that sends it intends.
This website
The text, design, logo and artwork of plugview.app belong to Mauricio León. You may link to any page and quote it with a link back. The site is provided as is; we try to keep it accurate, but console menus and third-party products change. How the site handles data is described in the Privacy page.
Trademarks
Nintendo Switch is a trademark of Nintendo. PlayStation is a trademark of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Xbox is a trademark of Microsoft. Steam and Steam Deck are trademarks of Valve. Elgato, AVerMedia, Mac and macOS, and other product names belong to their owners. They are named only to describe what plugview works with. plugview is an independent project, not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by any of them.
The plugview name and mark identify this project. The open-source license covers the code, not the name or mark: forks are welcome under another name.
Pro
Playing is free, forever. Optional paid Pro features are planned; there is nothing to buy yet. Their price, license, refund and payment terms will be published on this page before they go on sale.
Changes
These terms may change, for example when Pro launches. The date at the top shows the last change. Questions: open an issue on GitHub.
